Admission Policy

General Admission Policy

International School Tripoli is dedicated to serving the international community in Tripoli, as well as others seeking to pursue an education based on the English National Curriculum. Applications for Admission are reviewed
and decided upon by the Principal, at times in conjunction with the School board. The Principal will make initial year placement decisions.

Children accepted to International School Tripoli are expected to show:

  • The ability to function in a English Language and Learning environment.
  • The appropriate level of educational aptitude and skills required at each year level.

Enrolment Procedure

  • Parents should complete the registration form. This is available from the school, or can be filled in on the school web site, www.internationalschooltripoli.com, and then e-mailed to the school. A registration fee of US$1000 must be paid when the application is made.
  • An interview is arranged with the Principal. Any records, references test results, or medical records should be brought along for this interview.
  • A subsequent English Test is organised. The test is held at 1:00pm on Tuesdays. If necessary a Trial Day may be organised in order to make clearer the child’s suitability for attending International School Tripoli. Students will only begin in class at the beginning of the week, on a Sunday.
  • In almost all cases, a child will be placed in the relevant year class (dependent on their age as at 1st September of the year). However, if requested, or deemed necessary by the Principal, class teacher and/or parents, a child may be accepted into the class one year below or one year above their age. In this situation, there are expectations that previous school records will be available, as well as evidence of previous tests undertaken, and references from previous schools.
  • An offer of a place will either be made or not - in writing. Any decisions made by the Principal are final. If a place is not offered, advice and further information will be supplied to the child’s parents. If a place is offered, subsequent forms are filled in and additional information given - such as ‘School Uniform’ stationary and text book requirements
  • Registration and other fees are payable on entry to the school. A child may leave the school for up to 3 months and a place will be held open for them, as long as tuition fees are paid for the period of absence. During the
absence, the child is expected to attend an appropriate school, with documentation of such attendance required upon return to the International School Tripoli. Parents are requested to inform the school at least 30 days before the end of the period of leave of their intent to take up the place left open for the child in writing, in order for the school to be able to confirm a place for the child.Any period of longer than 3 months will be up to the discretion of the School Board.
  • International School Tripoli will accept children with Learning Difficulties if we feel that we can support and provide a meaningful education for them. Admission for students with Learning Difficulties is on a case-by-case
basis, with the Principal’s decision being final. The costs of any additional support required for students with Learning Difficulties will be the responsibility of the student’s parents.

Enrolment Priority

The School will aim to admit children in each school year up to, but not exceeding the school's standard number of 24 per class. For all children, if the number of requests exceeds the number of places available, the following criteria apply in order of priority:

  1. Children with brothers or sisters already in the school.
  2. Children of qualified teaching staff currently in employment at International School Tripoli.
  3. Children with at least one parent from English speaking countries.
  4. Libyan returnees (a returnee is defined as a child who has completed at least two years of western style education overseas)
  5. Children of Libyan parents who can demonstrate a compelling need for a western education, as well as the required aptitude in English language.

At International School Tripoli we firmly believe that there should be no discrimination based on gender, culture, nationality and religion, or in any other area.

Role of Parents

International School Tripoli, expects parents to:

  • Pay tuition fees promptly in accordance with the Tuition Fee Policy.
  • Take an active role in the life of the school.
  • Be able to communicate with the teachers and staff in English.
